Bear mauls U.S. tourists, 1 dead

I don't know if you saw this story over the weekend; I did, and didn't pay much attention to it. But we found out today that the 26-year-old woman that the bear initially attacked is a friend from college. She's on her way home as we speak, taking medical leave (obviously) from her job there. I heard it through the phone grape vine, but the updated stories are now online as well:

Crazy. I suddenly don't feel as excited about having seen a bear in Alaska. I don't know anything about Sara's injuries or anything like that, but I hope she's doing OK.
