Right before they show the new episode of Lost each week, they show last week's episode, with pop-up info bubbles. I tried watching it for the first time tonight. I learned some new-ish things that I didn''t remember knowing (hey, I have a lot on my mind these days!), which was nice, but overall, I'm not that into it, because since I've actually seen the episode already, I don't really have the patience to watch it all over again just waiting for the info bits.
Plus, some of it I don't care about, like the fact that the courtroom scene takes place in the downtown Honolulu YMCA.
However, NEW Lost episode comes on in just a couple minutes!

Funny
I don't know why I find this so hilarious, but I do.
We do pinch people to make sure they're asleep. They don't feel it (hopefully) but I guess they wake up with a little sore spot; I've never asked.

I slept from 4:30-7:30 yesterday afternoon, then again from 12:30 to 10:00 this morning. It was pretty nice. What finally woke me up was a text message from the university alert system, saying that classes were canceled as of 10:00 a.m. due to the approaching ice storm. I turned on the TV and it turns out we're under an ice warning through 9:00 tomorrow morning.
That's not good news because Eric is supposed to be flying in tonight. I hope his flight isn't delayed. Or canceled.
I do feel a little better about missing work today, though, because even though school is never canceled for 3rd and 4th year students, they canceled our lectures this afternoon and there's a strong chance our team will let the other two students out anyway.
And I feel a lot better in general. No more generalized myalgias, no more sore throat, no more weak legs. And I couldn't sleep any more right now if you paid me. Now let's see if I can not waste this entire day I have before me.
In other news, AMC Theatres is having this very cool promo where you can watch all 5 Best Picture nominees this Saturday for only $30, including unlimited popcorn all day! Unfortunately, there are no AMCs anywhere in Kentucky. Boo. Maybe you can go, though!

Sick
Yesterday my resident had a fever of 101 on rounds. He was coughing all over the place and didn't wear a mask to isolate himself from us.
Today, he was out sick (not surprising) and so was my attending (very surprising).
I woke up with mild aches and developed a mild sore throat over the course of the morning. I put on a mask but convinced myself I slept badly last night. I lasted through one post-lunch lecture, then dragged myself to student health, where a strep test and flu test were negative (of COURSE the strep test was negative; I know I don't have strep. Now I'm going to pay through my deductible, stupid nurse...), BUT I had a fever. So I got sent home. Can't return to the hospital until Friday (score!).
Of course, it still might be flu. This year's flu vaccine (which I got) is crap against the actual epidemic strains, influenza A (H1N1) and (H3N2), and the viruses are showing increasing resistance to oseltamivir (Tamiflu). That's not good news. Nevertheless, I should have insisted on a prescription even though my flu test was negative. But I couldn't think clearly because I'm sick, dammit. Oh well. Read this if you're a virus nerd like me: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm57e215a1.htm
Anyway, I'm going to go crawl under the covers. The biggest decision I have to make right now is, couch or bed?

Things I get because I'm 27
A free Qdoba burrito
A free "love it" at Cold Stone Creamery
A free scoop (2.5 oz, they specify) at Baskin Robbins
A free dessert at any Louisville Originals restaurant (with purchase of entree)
A free dessert at Baxter Station Bar and Grill, the awesome Louisville Originals that sends me an extra dessert coupon (with purchase of entree)
$10 off at Old Navy
25% off at Borders
Not bad!
I plan to cash in on the burrito and Cold Stone tonight (I convinced a friend who is similarly without his significant other to join me so I don't look like a pathetic fool eating at Qdoba by myself on Valentine's Day. Although, the other problem is that every time I'm out with this friend, we get mistaken for a couple.). I might even get the Baskin Robbins for Lost watching later tonight. The restaurant ones will have to wait until I have someone to eat out with next weekend (sniff sniff).
Happy Valentine's Day to you!
