- I got burned cooking my roast pork on Christmas. I was sauteeing the veggies in the skillet, and when I tossed in the onions, the pan spit some oil right back at me. I got a nice second-degree burn on my left middle finger, some first-degree burns on my left index and ring fingers, a minor burn on my right pinky, and a nice scar on my right forearm. I had to keep my left hand cold/numb for the better part of the day to prevent searing pain. The next day, I had the world's largest blister on my middle finger, and I went out and got some Mederma for everything else. Did you know you're supposed to use the stuff 3-4 times a day for 6-8 weeks for new scars?! For 3-4 months for old scars (I'm using it on my old iron burn since I have it). Crazy. My middle finger is looking a little better now, but I'm still worried about future cosmetic appearances (there are going to be pictures taken of that left hand in 16 months!).
- We found a stray kitten in our parking lot on New Year's Eve and tried to catch it, but it ran into the parking garage and we couldn't find it. We left it a big bowl of food, and yesterday the bowl was empty -- it seems like a lot for one kitten to have eaten in 24 hours, but maybe it was really hungry. I just don't want to think about homeless people eating cat food -- we left the bowl in the same place where we found that body a few months ago. Maybe I'll try looking again. It was a little orange tabby kitten, probably 8-10 weeks old, and looked rather plump, but still too young to be running around by itself, poor thing.
- We spent New Year's Day at the movies. We saw Sweeney Todd (finally!) and it was as I had expected -- good, not as great as it is in my head, OK singing by Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, missing a couple songs (Ballad of Sweeney Todd and Kiss Me!), but overall really good. "A Little Priest," in particular, was really well done. I sang along to the entire show, but silently, so as to not infuriate those around me. Then we had a quick dinner and went back to see Juno, which was really really really good. Definitely go see it. Allison Janney has a great line where she says, in response to a question from Juno about why she can't get a spinal block yet, "because doctors are sadists and like to watch lesser people scream." I cannot comment on its truthfulness, but it was funny...
- Snow! We got about half an inch yesterday, nice big fluffy white flakes. It was enough to be pretty but not enough to make anyone crazy in this part of the country where people don't know how to handle snow. At a few points it was falling really fast and thick, too, so it almost seemed like a true snowstorm -- that lasted 10 minutes, instead of 10 hours.
- I got my bridesmaid dress for the wedding I'm going to be in in April. I was sort of in between sizes, and Eric convinced me to order the smaller one and lose some weight if I had to. Well, the darn thing fits, so there goes my impetus for weight loss... I guess I'll have to make my resolution to get more fit/buff instead, but it's really difficult to balance the benefits of healthiness/slimness with the punishment of having to pay even more money to get this dress taken in if I lose too much weight. Stupid weddings ;)
- I should have gone back to school today but those of us starting on internal medicine have an extra day off for a reason I no longer remember. But it doesn't matter -- one extra day to sleep late, run errands, unpack, and clean up this pigsty of an apartment! Or, as will more likely happen, shower and watch the Project Runways I never watched in December.

Happy New Year!
I had a fun two weeks back east, but it really was nice to see my kitties and crawl back into my own bed Sunday night. Some thoughts:
