Sorry John McCain, I didn't have any beef with you before, but now you are dead to me.
"Studies repeatedly have discounted any link between thimerosal and autism, but legal challenges continue. The issue even cropped up in the presidential campaign, with Republican John McCain asserting on Friday that "there's strong evidence" autism is connected to the preservative."
I'm glad I didn't hear about this on Friday, because I got to spend an extra five days of my life not pissed off about this. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!?!?!?!?!?!!? This is worse than Mike Huckabee not believing in evolution.
By the way, I have no reaction to the story this quote came from except to roll my eyes. Thanks for the really informative article. No idea what kind of mitochondrial disorder the kid has, no idea what vaccines she got, no sort of information that would allow me to intelligently interpret the information given. Thanks.
By the way, just as a reminder, vaccines don't contain thimerosal anymore, autism rates are continuing to rise despite this, and there was just another measles outbreak due to a kid not getting vaccinated due to personal beliefs.
All I can do right now is scream in frustration.

You must not have been paying much attention.
Did you see Jenny McCarthy when she was on Oprah talking about this? If McCain's comments make you angry, Jenny's would've made your head explode. Even I wanted to forcibly shut her up, and I was fairly ambivalent to the topic before seeing the show.
OK, I obviously had at least some beef with him before, but it was at a level that I was content to leave him be and not waste my energy on despising him. Now, he deserves my active negative thoughts and feelings.
Yeah, Jenny McCarthy is retarded. It's fine and dandy for celebrities to tout their charity causes, but there are major differences between raising awareness about AIDS or Darfur and telling people that vaccines cause autism. Mostly, though, I ignore celebrities, so they don't get as much of my active negative thoughts and feelings. People who want to run the country and will no doubt put pressure on their surgeon general and Secretary of HHS, on the other hand, are a different story. Must be stopped!
So actually, to elaborate, adspar, I was mildly intrigued by McCain when was it -- four years ago? -- when he was coming across as very moderate and a possible alternative to pathetic Democrats. Then he gave that graduation speech at Liberty University in 2006 and I was like, WTF? So then I was completely indifferent to him. He hadn't yet done anything to earn my utter disapproval as he has now. But you have certainly made a case for it over the last year, I don't disagree!
