Argh, of course the summer has officially ended, now that I have all this free time to spend at the beach. And of COURSE the ocean water has finally warmed up and feels amazing, now that there are no lifeguards. And of COURSE it is now hurricane season, which means going swimming in 4-foot swells with a strong undertow with no lifeguard is supremely stupid.
ARGH!
I almost went swimming yesterday, but didn't because I had a lot of work to do, but I was pretty sure there would still be a decent number of people on the beach. And when I caught the local news at noon, they proved my theory correct. Today it's much cooler and overcast, so I doubt there are any beach-goers.
But I want to swim!
The only thing keeping me from popping into that water, Hurricana Hanna and all, is my memory of nearly being swept to sea on September 10, 2003, in Bradley Beach, NJ, due to Hurricane Isabel. Yeah, I don't fuck with hurricane-affected waters anymore.
Maybe I'll just take a stroll down to the beach. With my bathing suit conveniently on. And look for other beach-goers who can at least watch me being swept to sea and call 911 for me.
