Pediatrics

I've had 4 days of pediatrics and this is what has happened:
-Figured out what I'm looking at when I use an otoscope
-Actually diagnosed a few ear infections on my own!
-Controlled my urge to strangle an overbearing dad (let your wife talk and for god's sake, do NOT feed your six-month-old whole milk! being able to tolerate cow's milk is NOT a sign of having a super-child!)
-Came into contact (like, whole body contact) with Scabies Baby but have not started itching yet (please, please, PLEASE do not let me catch scabies!)
-Came into contact with Ringworm Boy but kept my distance
-Played with SO MANY BABIES!!!!
-Had my colleague and fellow med student have to take a 7-month-old away from a mom with post-partum depression (seriously, telling him in the examining room that she had a .38 and the baby was going to go to heaven because he was too little to have sinned)

-Caught a cold. Yes, that's right. After just 4 days, I am as snot-nosed and stuffy as every single child who comes into the office. I wash my hands before and after every patient. I scrub my hands when I get home. But a couple of times, those kids have sneezed in my face without warning and without time for me to duck. So now I'm sick. Blah. I'm looking forward to 7-10 days of symptomatic treatment (pseudoephedrine and guaifenisin every 4 hours like clockwork!) and trying not to get anything else on top of this cold. Although if I did manage to come down with a fever, I think I could stay home from work :)
